was once a prince.

she didn't say anything.
可是她一声不响。
went into the bedroom,took off all the bedding
她走进卧室，搬开所有的铺盖
put a pea on the bottom of the bed.
在床底放了一粒豌豆。
she took twenty mattresses and laid them on top of the pea
然后她取出二十条床垫铺在豌豆上
then put twenty eiderdown quilts on top of the mattresses.
再往床上铺上二十条羽绒被。
the princess was to sleep that night.
当晚公主就得睡在这里
the morning they asked her how she had slept.
第二天早上他们问她睡得好吗。
"Oh,just miserably!" said the princess."I've hardly closed my eyes all night!
"唉，太难受了!"公主说，"我几乎通宵没合眼!

约翰逊和汤的味道
day,a poor man who had only one piece of bread to eat
一天，一个穷人手里拿着一块蛋糕
walking past a restaurant.
经过饭店。
was a large pot soup on the table.
饭店的桌子上有一口大锅
poor man held his bread over the soup
于是他拿起蛋糕悬在汤的上面
the steam from the soup went into the bread,and gave it a good smell.
让汤的蒸汽进入面包，从而得到一个香馍。
he ate the bread.

restaurant owner was very angry at this

he asked the man for money,in exchange for the steam from the soup.

poor man had no money

the restaurant owner took him to Johnson,who was a judge at that time.
所以老板将带到法官约翰逊面前。
thought about the case for a little while.
约翰逊想了一会儿
he took some money from his pocket.
然后他从口袋里拿出一些钱。
held the coins next to the restaurant owner's ear,and shook them
他把铜板放在饭店老板的耳旁，然后摇动它们
that they made a jingling noise."What was that?"asked the restaurant owner.

"That was payment for you,"answered Johnson.

"What do you mean? That was just the sound of coins!"
