(FalseDiscoveryRate(FDR)=Expected(FalsePositive/(FalsePositive+TruePositive))). In other words, FDR is the expected proportion of false positives among all positives which rejected the null hypothesis and not among all the tests undertaken. In the FDR method, P values are ranked in an ascending array and multiplied by m/k where k is the position of a P value in the sorted vector and m is the number of independent tests.

Example:

○ m = 10000

● p-values:

○ cutoff at .01 assumes that you likely found about 100 false positives

○ cutoff of .0001 assumes that you only found 1 false positive

● q-values:

○ set q-value cutoff at .05, and be sure that only 5% of the significant genes found are likely to be false positives
