After Mrs. White went to bed, the two men sat and smoked for some time.
怀特太太睡觉之后，两个男人坐着吸了一会儿烟。
Then Herbert said, ‘Well, Father, I’m going to bed too.
郝伯特说，“爸爸，我也要去睡觉了。
Perhaps the money is in a bag under your bed! Good night, Father.’
也许钱就在你床下的一个袋子里！晚安！爸爸。”
And Herbert laughed and went out of the room.
郝伯特笑着走出了房间。
Old Mr. White sat in the cold living-room for a long time.
老怀特先生在寒冷的客厅里呆了很长时间。
The candle died and it was dark.
蜡烛灭了，天也黑了。
Suddenly, the old man saw a face at the window.
突然，老人看见窗户上有一张脸。
Quickly, he looked again, but there was nothing there.
很快，他看了一眼，但那儿什么也没有。
He felt afraid. Slowly he stood up and left the cold, dark room.
他很害怕，他慢慢地站起来，离开了寒冷、漆黑的房间。
The next morning the winter sun came through the window and the house felt nice and warm again.
第二天早餐，冬日的阳光穿过窗户，房子里重新变得温暖了。
Mr. White felt better and he smiled at his wife and son
怀特先生感觉很好，他对妻子和儿子微笑。
The family sat down to have breakfast and they began to talk about the day.
一家人坐下来共进晚餐，他们讨论着白天要去干的事。
The monkey’s paw was on a little table near the window,
猴爪放在窗子边的小桌上，
but nobody looked at it and nobody thought about it.
但没有人去看它，也没有人想要它。
‘I’m going to the shops this morning,’ Mrs. White said.
“上午我想去商店，”怀特太太说。
‘I want to get something nice for dinner. Are you going to come with me?’ she asked her husband.
“我想买一点好东西做晚餐，你愿意和我一块去吗？”她问丈夫。
‘No, I’m going to have a quiet morning. I’m going to read,’ her husband answered.
“不了，我想享受一个安静的上午。我想看书。”她丈夫回答。
‘Well, I’m not going to out this evening,’ Herbert said.
“今天晚上问不想出门，”郝伯特说。
‘so we can go to bed early tonight. We were very late last night,’
“我们就能早一点上床睡觉，昨晚我们睡得太迟了。”
