热处理炉对金属工件进行各种金属热处理的工业炉的统称。温度一般较加热炉为低。热处理炉可以采用各种加热炉的炉型，但要求较严格地控制炉温和炉内气氛等。热处理炉大多使用气体燃料加热，为了准确控制炉温，有的热处理炉用电加热。现代的热处理(特别是化学热处理)工艺日趋复杂，热处理炉的形式也很多。对于连续的热处理流程，须配备合适的连续热处理炉；对于周期工作的热处理工艺，要采用强制循环的控制气氛以及使炉子的操作机械化和自动化。冶金厂常用下列几种热处理炉。罩式炉被加热物在罩内加热的一种周期性工作的热处理炉。主要用于薄板垛或钢卷的退火处理，罩式炉通常由外罩、内罩和炉台组成。被加热物放置在内罩(马弗罩)内,在内罩与外罩之间供热。一般往内罩里通入控制气氛。加热、保温、缓冷过程完成后，吊走外罩，板垛或钢卷便在内罩内冷却；待冷却到给定温度后，去掉内罩，板材或钢卷在空气中冷却,然后卸料。图1是处理薄板垛的罩式退火炉，烧嘴安设在炉台上。处理冷轧钢卷的罩式炉有单垛式和多垛式两种，多垛式可在一座长方形炉台上放2～8垛钢卷，每垛分别扣上单独的圆形内罩。在内罩下部安装有循环风扇，用以加强控制气氛与促进钢卷间的对流传热。辊底式炉用炉内辊道运送热处理材，沿炉子整个长度每隔一定距离安装一根辊子,物料在辊子上运行,在辊子上面和下面的炉膛都可布置烧嘴供热（图2）。辊子有环辊（带有盘形辊环）和平辊二种,前者只能用于加热板材,后者可用于加热板材、型钢、管材和棒材。辊子外层辊套的材质通常为耐热钢，有的也用碳化硅。温度高的炉子(1000～1150℃)采用水冷轴并带绝热内衬的耐热钢炉辊，或全水冷的炉辊。为了防止炉辊弯曲，在高温下工作的辊子必须不停地旋转；当炉子空烧或不出料时，也要用低速以每分钟0.5～1.5周的转速摆动或旋转。辊底式炉因物料两面受热，加热较快、较均匀，广泛应用于常化、退火、淬火、回火等热处理工艺。链式炉一种输送带式的热处理炉，以链条作为输送带运送工件。用于薄板坯轧制前加热和薄板常化处理的链式炉，链条一般设在炉子下面的沟槽内，链节之间装有用耐热钢或耐热铸铁制造的"炉爪"，上面放置薄板坯或薄板。通常可将钢材加热到900℃,炉长不超过25米。在有色金属加工、机械、搪瓷等工业中，也常用链式炉进行各种工件的热处理和铸型干燥等。有的链式炉的链条装在炉子的上面或侧面，通过缝隙把吊钩或吊杆伸入炉内，以悬挂工件。有的低温热处理炉把链条装在炉内，工件直接放在链条上加热。牵引式热处理炉广泛应用于冷轧带钢的镀锡、镀锌和硅钢、不锈钢的展开连续热处理，近年来还用于深冲钢带的退火。牵引式炉大致分卧式和立式两种。卧式有单程的（直通卧式炉）和多程的（折叠式炉）；立式也有单程的（立式炉）和多程的（塔式炉）。牵引式热处理炉比罩式炉具有建设周期短、占地少、产品质量好(平整、均匀)、自动化程度高的优点，但设备复杂。塔式炉牵引带钢的速度可高达每秒钟10米，多用辐射管或电热体加热，可通控制气氛，处理温度为700～950℃。钢丝铅淬火炉从英文patenting又音译为"焙钝"炉，是牵引式热处理炉的一种，用于钢丝在铅槽中等温淬火前的加热。加热温度为870～940℃。炉子有马弗式、明火式和电直接加热式三种。此外，井式炉常用于长大工件和车轮、轮箍等的热处理。浴炉广泛应用于需要均匀、快速加热并防止氧化脱碳小件机件的热处理。
