水稻负泥虫负泥虫科昆虫的 1种(见图)。俗名牛屎虫,巴巴虫。分布于中国黑龙江、吉林、辽宁、陕西、浙江、湖北、湖南、福建、台湾、广东、广西、四川、贵州、云南。朝鲜和日本也有分布。成虫体长3.7~4.6毫米,体宽1.6~2.2毫米。头、触角(基部两节橙红色)、小盾片钢蓝或接近黑色。前胸背板(除前缘与头同色外)、足大部(基节、胫端及跗节黑色)橙红色。鞘翅深蓝并带金属光泽。体腹面一般黑色。背面光洁无毛。头、触角和体腹面被金黄色毛。头具刻点;头顶后方有一纵凹,触角长度几达体长的1/2。前胸背板长大于宽,前后缘接近平直,两侧前部近于平行,中部以后收狭,基横凹不深,正中央有一短纵沟,横凹前微隆;刻点较密,其凹处更为明显,中纵线有2行排列极不规则的刻点;小盾片倒梯形,表面无刻点。鞘翅两侧缘近平直,肩胛内侧有一浅凹;刻点行整齐,基部和末行刻点较粗大,行距平坦;小盾片刻点行整齐,有3~6个刻点。卵长椭圆形,长约0.7毫米。幼虫近于梨形,背面明显隆起。本种是中国水稻的重要害虫,为害秧苗和稻田的禾苗,成虫、幼虫沿叶脉取食叶肉,在叶尖部分则食穿表皮。大发生年受害严重的禾苗全部变白,或造成禾苗生长黄弱,抽穗不齐,稻谷减产。1年1代,以成虫在稻田附近的禾木科杂草根际和叶鞘中越夏、越冬,取食一段时间即交尾产卵。卵在秧苗和稻叶的正面,一般靠近叶尖,卵块排成两行,每块有1~27粒卵。幼虫共4龄,初孵幼虫群集为害,以后逐步扩散到他处为害,幼虫排泄物堆积在背面,老熟后脱去背面的排泄物爬至水面部的叶片或叶鞘结茧准备化蛹。除危害水稻外,受害作物还有粟、黍、小麦、大麦、玉米、芦苇、糠稷、茭白。
