近因（ProximateCause） 造成保险标的的损失的最直接、最有效的原因，而不是指在时间上最接近损失的原因。近因原则是保险理赔过程中必须遵循的重要原则。按照这一原则，只有当被保险人的损失是直接由于保险责任范围内的事故造成的，保险人才能予以赔偿，即保险事故的发生与损失事实的形成，两者之间必须有直接因果关系的存在，才能构成保险赔偿的条件。近因原则在实践中分为以下几种情况： （1）单一原因造成的损失，如果这一原因是保险人承保的风险，那么这一原因就是损失的近因，保险人应负赔偿责任；反之，则不负赔偿责任。 （2）多数原因造成的损失，而这些原因都是保险责任范围内的，则该损失的近因肯定是保险事故，保险人应负赔偿责任；反之，则不负赔偿之责。 （3）多数原因造成损失的，这些原因中既有保险责任范围内，也有保险责任范围外的，则要具体情况具体分析，如果前面的原因是保险责任范围内的，后面的原因虽不再保险责任范围之内，但后面的原因是前面原因导致的必然结果，则前面的原因是近因，保险人应负责赔偿。如果前面的原因不是保险责任范围内的，后面的原因却在保险责任范围之内，但后面的原因是前面的原因导致的必然结果，则近因不是责任范围内的，保险人不负赔偿之责。
