舞蹈解剖生理学研究人在舞蹈活动过程中的各种生理机能变化规律，指导人们合理地从事舞蹈训练或科学地组织舞蹈教材，是舞蹈学科中的一门应用科学。舞蹈要求人的肢体的各部位,按一定节奏和规律,形成和谐的动作。各种静止的造型、运动的舞姿及跳、转等技术技巧，都是以人体的骨骼为杠杆、关节为转动轴、肌肉为动力而体现出来的。了解并熟悉人的生理构造，有助于改善自然的身体条件，以适应舞蹈艺术的需要。如人体的脊柱在胸段构成胸廓，前方为胸骨、侧面为肋骨,后方为胸椎。胸椎的棘腔呈瓦片状相互重叠,其形状如同一个笼罩，前屈、后伸和侧弯运动的范围受到了一定的限制。但是，在舞蹈中胸部和腰部又是塑造优美婀娜舞姿的主要部位，舞蹈训练便针对这种生理构造的限制，有针对性地进行前屈、后伸、侧弯训练，并借助肌肉的力量使胸椎之间关节机能有别于自然状态，使胸椎的伸屈幅度得到改善。旋转，是舞蹈中的常见技巧。无论是原地转、移动转或是空中转，人体都必须要有一条能够旋转的转动轴，给予适当的动力，沿着一定的方向产生旋转运动。这个转动轴的位置，以及旋转瞬间用力的方向和大小，必须符合人体骨骼、肌肉的解剖生理条件以避免造成损伤。在舞蹈基本训练中运用生理学知识，剖析舞蹈动作的骨、关节系统的变化，肯定正确的训练方法，纠正不符合生理特点的训练方法，有助于舞蹈教学和训练水平的提高，是舞蹈工作者一项必修的基础课。
