磁路计算依据磁路的有关定律，根据构成磁路材料的磁化特性，计算一定结构的磁路中的磁通势、磁通等量的关系。计算磁路所依据的基本定律有两个。①磁通连续性原理：穿出任一闭合面的所有各磁通的代数和为零。这一定理在磁路中的应用在形式上相当于电路中的基尔霍夫电流定律（见基尔霍夫定律）。②安培环路定律：沿任一闭合回路的所有各段磁位降的代数和等于该回路中磁通势的代数和。这一定律在磁路中的应用在形式上相当于电路中的基尔霍夫电压定律。为简化磁路计算，常作某些假设。如忽略空气中的漏磁通，或以某种近似方法计入；磁路中的磁场强度是分区或分段均匀的等。自然界中存在近于理想的电绝缘体和导体，却没有理想磁绝缘体和理想导磁体，所以在磁路计算中在上述的一些假设下得到的结果与实际情况往往有不同程度的差别。根据上述原理可以进行以直流电流励磁的磁路计算。当磁路中磁通是交变的情况下，例如在铁心变压器、交流电机中，大致仍可用上述原理进行磁路计算，只是要用测得的交流磁化曲线作为磁路材料的磁化特性，并适当地考虑铁心中磁滞、涡流等现象的影响。研究在脉冲磁化方式下工作的磁路，便需要考虑铁心中磁化的动态特性。这类问题需要作为电磁场的问题用电磁场的方程式来求解。随着计算机应用的发展。在磁路、电磁场问题的计算中,已经有了许多用于这类问题的计算程序,采用有限元等方法，可以求出各点的磁场强度、磁位等物理量的数值，并且达到满足工程设计计算要求的精度。
