日负荷曲线预测对下一日24小时电力负荷的预报。它是电力系统调度赖以安排日调度计划，决定开停机计划、经济分配负荷及安排旋转备用容量的基础。日负荷曲线预测的精确性直接影响电力系统运行的经济效益。电力系统负荷曲线的变化规律表现为一个非平稳的随机过程。如果以 1小时为间隔对它进行离散化的测量，则可得到一个随机的时间序列。由于人们的生产及生活安排等社会因素及自然季节性的影响，使负荷曲线的变化呈现出一定的周期性。从不同的时间观察，可认为负荷曲线的变化具有一天、一周、一月以至一年的变化周期。日负荷曲线的预测应充分利用这种变化周期性的特点。日负荷曲线的预测方法主要有多重相关算法、时间序列法和谐波分解法。但这几种方法都没有计及气象条件的影响，而负荷与气象条件有密切的关系。更精确的负荷预测必须考虑气象因素，建立气象负荷模型或根据气象条件对负荷模型进行必要的修正，从而获得比较切合实际的日负荷曲线预测。多重相关算法 从负荷样本数据（即负荷曲线的历史数据）找出电力系统负荷在各个周期的相关性，构造多个预测模型，一般为一阶线性模型。由各个模型得到的预测值及其方差再进行最优组合，得到一个加权平均值。根据线性估计理论,权重应与各自的方差成反比,加权平均值的方差的倒数等于各个方差倒数之和。节假日则需特殊考虑，舍去相应的一个模型的预测值。时间序列法 把负荷的样本数据按时间顺序组成序列。根据此序列的自相关函数和偏自相关函数的截尾性能来建立自回归模型、滑动平均模型或自回归滑动平均模型。在预测方法上可采用条件期望预测、平衡线性最小方差预测或新息法自适应预测等。谐波分解法 利用负荷曲线变化的周期性，用谐波分析的方法求出预测值。
