燃气工业炉工业生产中用燃气加热物料，以完成物理变化和化学变化的热工设备。一般用于硅酸盐工业的称为窑，用于金属加热的称为炉。燃气工业炉一般由燃气燃烧器、炉膛、余热利用装置、排烟装置、炉门及提升装置、金属框架、机械传动装置等组成，并附有各种检测仪表以及控制系统等。根据生产工艺的不同需要，燃气工业炉有多种结构类型：按用途分有加热炉和熔化炉；按炉温分有高温炉、中温炉和低温炉。加热炉 物料在炉内完成加热升温过程。不同加热炉的加热目的不同，如：压力加工前的加热炉是增大金属在轧制、锻造、冲压和拉丝加工中的可塑性；热处理炉是改变金属结晶组织，使它具有所需的机械性能；焙烧炉是在物料熔点以下加热，改变其化学组成和物理性质，以便于下一步处理；干燥炉是排出物料中的水分。熔化炉 物料在炉内完成熔化过程。按熔化物料不同，可分为有色金属熔化炉、黑色金属熔化炉和非金属熔化炉等。高温炉 炉膛（工作室）温度在1000°C以上，炉内热交换以辐射为主。图1是一种机械化三段步进式连续加热炉，靠专用步进机构的升降进退，带动钢料在炉内前进。炉内装有上部及下部燃烧器，炉内各点温度不随时间变化。钢料由端部进料口进入，经预热段、加热段和均热段，由侧面出料口出炉。为加强炉内换热，炉气与钢料逆向流动。中温炉 炉膛温度为650～1000°C,炉内热交换靠辐射和对流,主要用于物料加热,使其达到回火、淬火、退火和正火等工艺要求。低温炉 炉膛温度在650°C以下。图2为一种间歇式低温加热炉，炉内热交换以对流为主。对流传热速度随流动介质密度和速度的提高而增加，低温时流动介质的密度大于高温时的密度，而且还可采用热风机来提高流动介质的速度。从热工观点，要提高燃气工业炉的热效率，首先必须按工艺要求合理设计和选用炉型，以保证良好的燃气燃烧、炉气流动和炉内热交换。还要做到：尽可能采用适合工艺需要的新型燃烧器并充分利用高温烟气预热物料或利用余热预热燃气和空气；加强炉体隔热保温；提高热工操作和维护管理水平等。
