There are countless legends about the Great Wall,
关于长城的故事也多得数不胜数，
among which Mengjiangnv Cries the Great Wall is one of the four major folk love legends in China.
其中就有我国民间四大爱情故事之一的《孟姜女哭长城》。
The story says that during the reign of Qin Shihuang there was a couple, Fanxiliang and Mengjiangnv.
故事讲的是在秦始皇建执政的时候，传说有一对夫妇――范喜良和孟姜女，
Only three days after their marriage, her husband was forcibly arrested and built the Great Wall.
仅仅在成亲三天后，丈夫就被抓去修筑长城。
Later, her husband died of fatigue due to repairing the Great Wall.
后来丈夫因修长城而劳累致死，
Mengjiangnv fell on the Great Wall and cried day and night.
孟姜女伏于长城上昼夜啼哭，
Her crying touched the god.
她的哭声感动了上天，
The Great Wall where Fanxiliang bones were buried collapsed,
埋范喜良尸骨处的长城崩塌，
and Mengjiangnv dived into the sea in despair.
而孟姜女也在绝望中投海自尽了。
Folk legend though it only is,
虽然是民间传说，
it also shows that the construction of the Great Wall is the cruelest corvee in all dynasties,
但也说明了在历代王朝中，修筑长城都是最残酷的一种徭役，
and it also shows the huge quantities of construction of the Great Wall in all dynasties.
也侧面说明了历代修筑长城的工程量的巨大。
