en-(em-) = to put into; to make
或to make(使...)。
1. empower [(em<en(=make) +pot<pot( =powerful)
vt. give power or authority to act 授权…
ex) The feminist movement empowored millions of women in America.
2.encompass [(en( =make) +com( =together)+pass( =stride, step)
ex) My CD collection encompasses a wide range of musical genres.
3.encounter [(en( =make) +counter( =against)使面对面]
vt. find oneself faced by danger, difficulties, etc.; meet enemies; meet a friend, etc. unexpectedly
n. a sudden, unexpected meeting with someone or something
ex)I never expected to encounter so many regulations.
4.emblem [(em<en( =in) +bl <bol( =throw)
ex) In most cultures, the dove is seen as an emblem of peace.

e.g. Had he never been promoted, he would never have remained with the company.
If he had not been promoted, he would never have remained with the company.
Should I win the lottery, I would buy a car.
If I should win the lottery, I would buy a car.
Were he to leave today, he would get there by Monday.
If he were to leave today, he would get there by Monday.
