假定同批人分析法把某一时期不同年龄者的某项指标值，当作某同批人经过各年龄时的指标值，从而进行的同批人分析的方法。例如，编制生命表原是为反映同一批人出生后随年龄增长而陆续死亡的过程，但一般都是根据某一年（或连续几年）的分年龄死亡率计算。同一年内各不同年龄的人原非同一批人，在分析中却把他们在这一年的死亡率看作同一批人经历各年龄时的死亡率，以研究生命过程。随着人口学研究的发展，越来越多的人口现象需要从同批人角度进行分析。而同批人的长期资料很难取得，且缺乏时效，不能说明当前某一时期的情况，所以在分析人口现象时，假定同批人法得到日益广泛的应用。除时期生命表外，结婚表、生育表等也都是按假定同批人编制。根据某一年的生育率和死亡率水平计算的粗再生产率、净再生产率、平均世代间隔、平均预期寿命等等，都是按假定同批人计算的指标。假定同批人分析的目的是说明一批人的生命过程，如平均一生可活多少年、平均一生能生育几个子女。但所依据的只是某一时期不同各批人的资料，因此带有很大假定性，在使用时必须注意到这点。
